LYNN — Before the basketball season began, Lynn Classical coach Marvin Avery said he looked forward to his team playing fastbreak, up-tempo basketball.
And in game one of the young season, that’s exactly what his Rams accomplished.
They defeated the Revere Patriots by a score of 59-41 Tuesday night. Much of their offensive production came from that fastbreak, mostly from star point guard Marvin Avery Jr. (19 points).
Classical’s pace of play was apparent from the jump, as seven quick points from Rolky Brea Arias (9 points) helped Classical secure an 11-3 lead just two minutes into the contest.
From there, Avery showed his prowess from beyond the arc and in the painted area, scoring nine first-quarter points en route to a 21-7 lead.
The second quarter was a bit quieter from the hosts, only scoring nine points, but two long-range 3-pointers from – guess who – Avery gave Classical a 13-point cushion going into the break (30-17).
From there, Classical’s speed and athleticism continued to dominate the Patriots. Revere eventually cut its deficit to eight points, but it wasn’t enough to generate a late comeback.
Lynn Classical will have to wait for Tuesday as it looks to take down Everett at 7 p.m.
Leading scorers (Classical)
