Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has confirmed that Chelsea were interested in signing him ahead of the January transfer window.
The Netherlands international had a superb World Cup campaign and he was constantly linked with a Premier League move thereafter.
Manchester United were touted as favourites to sign him at one point before Liverpool reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven.
Speaking to Daily Mail, the Dutchman has now revealed that Chelsea were also keen, but he made his mind up to join Liverpool.
He said: “When I heard about interest from Liverpool in December, I did not think about anything else. There was also Chelsea interest maybe but I already had my mind made up.”
Gakpo has endured a difficult start to his Reds career and he has failed to contribute a goal or an assist in his six appearances.
Prior to that, he bagged a stunning tally of 13 goals and 17 assists for PSV this term. He will be hoping to recapture his form soon.
